Group 1/2/3 Car seats explained by BabyBabyShop advisors

Group 1-2-3 from 9kg – 36kg approx 9months to 11 years

Combination carseats are designed to grow with your baby all the way up to 36Kg (approx 11 years)

These are more expensive than single-group car seats but they can be a good investment which could save you money in the long run.

Like most things in life there are good and bad things about combination car seats.

Portability: Most Group 0+ seats weigh around 3.5kg and can be fitted to a travel system. They are also easy to carry with a sleeping baby on board. A Group 0+/1 car seat can weigh a lot more and will not fit a travel system.

Lifespan: Whilst you gain a longer carseat lifespan, combination carseats are designed for a wide range of baby weights and sizes so it may not fit your car as well as a dedicated group carseat can. Also, 12 years is quite a long time and it's possible you might change your car. A seat that has a good fit in one car may not fit so well in another car.

Having said all that, a combination seat can be a good purchase, as with all carseats the best thing you can do is pop into our shop (bring your car with you if you can) and talk to our very experienced advisors. We can chat about your requirements and test a wide range of seats in your car.
