For older children an adult seat belt alone does not offer sufficient protection. Booster seats raise your child on the car seat to enable the best fit of an adult diagonal and lap seat belt across his or her hips and shoulder. Some models have shoulder belt guides and arm rests for added comfort.
Booster seats and cushions do not have an integral harness to hold the child in place. The adult seat belt goes around the child and the seat. Isofix booster seats are available, meaning the belt holds only the child in correctly.

It is important that the seat belt is correctly adjusted for each child. The lap belt should go over the pelvic region (not the stomach), the diagonal strap should rest over the shoulder, not on the neck
Booster seats with side wings will help prevent injury in a side impact by protecting the child's head, and on most seats, the height of the side wings can be adjusted as the child grows.
Booster seats can be used in the front or rear of the car, but it is safer to put them in the rear, especially if there is a passenger airbag in the front.
Tip – having an isofix car seat will make your life easier; when the child is not in the seat you don’t need to strap the adult belt around it to hold it in position when travelling
